The Story of Savella

Savella Oy is a Finnish company founded by Suveka Kymäläinen, an expert in clay construction and traditional techniques. She has been working in clay construction since 2017, completed a vocational qualification in clay construction in 2019, and has been leading workshops in the field since 2020. In her work, she favors natural materials and environmentally friendly construction methods.

Savella's products are based on Suveka's in-depth knowledge of traditional Finnish clay techniques. Building on this, she has developed her own clay mortar recipes and Savella clay paints. The development of the paint began from a personal need: Suveka wanted a paint that dries quickly and is easy to apply without requiring great physical effort. The safety of the raw materials was also important to her. The products continue to be developed based on practical experience and customer feedback.

Suveka wants to bring Finnish clay into an increasing number of construction and renovation projects. She is particularly interested in the use of local clay and the utilization of surplus clay generated during construction. Her goal is for Finnish clay to be known and valued as a building material internationally as well.

About Savella

Which surfaces is Savella clay paint suitable for?

Savella is best suited for absorbent surfaces, such as untreated wood, rag paper, and clay plaster.

It can also be used on surfaces such as wallpaper and plasterboard, provided the preparatory work and painting method are chosen to suit the substrate. If necessary, perform a test patch in an inconspicuous area.

What shades are available in Savella clay paint?

Savella’s color palette offers 36 options. The paint’s matte finish and brush strokes bring vibrancy to the color and a soft look to the wall.

Explore the shades with the help of a hand-painted color chart. The A6-sized color sample, painted on rag paper, helps you evaluate the shade in your home’s lighting.

What does Savella clay paint contain?

Savella contains only clay, natural pigments, and a grain-based binder. The paint contains no plastic or synthetic additives, making it suitable for builders and interior designers who value natural materials.

How was Savella clay paint developed?

Behind Savella's formulations lie years of experience in earthen construction and traditional surface finishing methods. The paint has been developed for modern interiors and is used in both new builds and renovation projects.

How do you paint with Savella clay paint?

The paint is applied with a brush using crosswise strokes. It dries in a few hours and lightens to its final shade as it dries.

Typically, one to three coats of paint are sufficient to achieve the desired coverage and uniformity. Tools can be cleaned with water.
